The pygmy python is the smallest python species on Earth — a perfect miniature that matures at around half a metre and lives happily in an enclosure the size of a bedside table. Known also as the anthill python for its termite-mound homes in the Pilbara, Antaresia perthensis is rust-red as a juvenile, mellowing to brick tones with age, and carries the same easy-going nature as the rest of its genus, in the most compact package possible.
