Description

The diamond python is the cool-climate aristocrat of the carpet complex: midnight black scales, each one starred with yellow, arranged into the rosettes that give the species its name. Diamonds are unusual among pythons — they come from temperate south-eastern Australia and actually need things cooler than their tropical cousins, which makes them a refreshingly economical snake to heat in a European home. This adult male is captive-bred, well-established, and feeding on defrosted rodents.

The golden rule with diamonds: do not keep them like tropical carpets. They need a short daily basking window rather than all-day heat, genuinely cool nights, and a distinct cool winter rest period — chronic overheating is the one mistake that shortens their long lives. Feed modestly; an adult male needs a rodent only every three to four weeks in the warm season.
